Does anyone else here listen to Al Stewart, and specifically his Beach Full Of Shells album? If so, let me know; there's a musical effect on it that I can't quite follow.
The first two and a bit lines of each verse are sung slightly different (and, IMHO, less pleasantly) from the rest. I had wondered if it was a different key; Creatrix thinks he is making odd use of semitones.
A colleague is both an experienced folk singer and an Al Stewart fan; I'll lend him the CD / ask his opinion.
