More on the weekend

A smooth journey 95% of the way back home, with Delia and Don'tKnowHimWellEnoughToThinkOfAPseudonym accompanying us on the ferry, and then Delia on the train to London. The 5% that wasn't so smooth was when the train stopped at Leagrave, so we got off and got a taxi the last few miles.

Now unpacking, putting away, dinner, watching Springwatch, and thinking about going back to work tomorrow (well, for me; Creatrix gets an extra day off).

Many thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] ladyofastolat and [livejournal.com profile] king_pellinor for the hospitality, lifts and book loan, [livejournal.com profile] chainmailmaiden and others for the food, and everyone for being Good People. We hope [livejournal.com profile] prince_eldarion* is better by now (although I have to say that he is really a very good little boy, even when he isn't feeling his best), and that everyone got home (or, as the case may be, got tidied up) successfully.

*On seeing me getting a drink from the kitchen, he said, "Beer!" He has obviously got me pegged.

The weekend succeeded in taking me out of myself, so that was good; the tiredness is now more the result of sleeping in a strange bed and lots of travelling, I think.

I read on teletext that the Isle of Wight (specifically St Catherine's Point) was the wettest place in Britain, with 2.05 inches of rain between 6pm last night and 6am this morning. I can believe it.

It was so wet here that the Luton carnival (the biggest one-day carnival in Europe) was called off. This must be very disappointing for the people who had worked so hard to make costumes &c.

I also hear on the news that today at Headingley saw the coldest day's play ever at a Test match in Britain, at 7.4 C. I hope it's warmer when I go to see the game at Trent Bridge (my birthday present from my parents).

And a link for those who were talking about ladies' long coats.

They can't have been measuring our back garden. Our back garden was definitely wetter than that.

Doesn't surprise me, either! In fact, I'd say that about a mile due north of St Catherine's Point was the wettest, and always when I was trying to put stuff outside...

He's been referred to in the past in various journals as Jane Somebody's Evil Twin's Twin, which I shortened to JSETT, but I might start referring to him as Bethran as that always seems to be his pseudonym of choice in games. Of course if he did finally create his own LJ profile, that would make things so much easier...

I note in the interests of historical documentation to add to your praise pf food-providers that the rice-crispy cakes were courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] phina_v.

[livejournal.com profile] prince_eldarion is *finally* on the mend; it has been a bit of a saga ;-(

Thanks for the Barbour link. Mmmn, that does look good: might have to add it to my wishlist.
