The Daily Mail's view on the return of Peter Mandleson to the cabinet:
"Malignant, malevolent, mendacious - this creep is a cancer on British life"

And on the Today programme this morning:
(i) a report that the $700bn + bailout bill had been supported by George W Bush, John McCain and Barack Obama
(ii) a report that the McCain camp were planning a series of TV adverts, attacking Obama for supporting the bill.

What malaheed said. I confess my immediate thought on hearing the news was that Brown wasn't certain he was going to lose the next election and wanted to make sure.

As for the other...

a) the McCain campaign has already published ads (i) saying how McCain was vital to getting the bill passed (before it had done so, in fact) and (ii) attacking Obama for supporting it, so we can only assume that their insanity is deeply embedded.

b) you have read the recent posting that the_marquis and I have made on the subject of US politics? What really scares me is that blackmailing Congress with the threat of martial law wouldn't work if they didn't think Bush would do it....
