It is sad that I saw the word "Rainbow" and instantly sang "Up above the streets and houses", but it is true.

*is a child of the eighties*

Actually, the first name I thought of was [colleague who has just given me a pile of expense forms from LGBT committee], but the TV programme was next on the list.

None of the above, really.

None of the above - I thought of D.H.Lawrence

Judy Garland, here.

Actually, I would have expected it to be George, Bungle and co, but the image that popped into my head was this:

Does anyone else think that Graham Bonnet (Rainbow lead singer) looks just like Eric Roberts playing the Master in Doctor Who? It's the shades. http://wilybadger.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/the_master1.jpg

It's funny, I always think of Ronnie James Dio as "the" lead singer of Rainbow, but, of course, they had several lead singers over time.

I think Dio was "the" lead singer and Bonnet was "a" lead singer after Dio left!

I remember idly leafing through a copy of "Rock Family Trees" (or whatever it was called), and being amazed at the work that had gone into depicting Deep Purple and its offspring.

I'm too old (and childless) to know anything about the TV series.

I thought of the people at No.52 first.

And after that, The Celestial Steam Locomotive

The junior wing of the Guide Movement.

...although I'm sure I was influenced by the fact that I didn't hear "rainbow", I saw "Rainbow," written with a capital, so took it as a proper noun. If I'd just heard the word "rainbow" out of context, I would just have imagined an actual rainbow.

I thought of John Keats and Lamia first:

Philosophy will clip an Angel’s wings,
Conquer all mysteries by rule and line,
Empty the haunted air, and gnomed mine —
Unweave a rainbow, as it erewhile made
The tender-person’d Lamia melt into a shade...

Although this does come back to Newton, sort of.

'Since you've been gone' burst into my head, hotly followed by Dorothy!

And I've never seen the damn show! But one of my contemporary Hildabeasts was described as looking like ZippyfromRainbow, so the association stuck.

I also think of a littler* version of Brownie Guides ;)

*Yes I know, technically not a word
