On Mull

Well, we're coming to the end of the first week of our holiday, and what a great week it's been! We've seen:
- castles
- otters
- eagles (golden and white-tailed - and, in an aviary, bald)
- buzzards
- lots of small birds, like wheatears, stonechats and whinchats
- seals
- porpoises
- lots and lots and LOTS of puffins
- basalt columns (in Fingal's cave)
- Tornadoes
- and an aircraft carrier!

The weather has varied from great to glorious - food pretty good - drink likewise. I had oysters and guinness for lunch yesterday - mmm!

After a week in Tobermory*, we're now about to leave Mull for three days on Iona, then head back to the mainland for three more days in Oban.

*Tobermory features multifarious Balamory souvenirs, and the odd Saki** book. However, there are no wombles at all. *sulks*

**He wrote a story called Tobermory, about a talking cat. It's good.

Glad yuo had a nice time- I didn't know that you like Saki- which is your favourite story?

Been a big fan ever since they were read to us in English in the third year. Favourite? Hard to say - there are so many good ones! Gabriel-Ernest, maybe?

I like the reticence of Lady Anne. Nasty.

Yes, that's another good one.

The other one I really like is the short novel "When William Came" which I find disturbingly believable for the time.

Oh yes.

OTOH, I cannot get into "The Westminster Alice" - no doubt very funny at the time, but "The time" was a hundred years ago!

I couldn't get into that either. Probably too many in jokes.

That's what I thought.

Have you read the recently-released collection of previously-unknown short stories?

No- sounds interesting.
