Update
Still got a cold. About to go back to bed.
In my dream last night, I had gone to some sort of clinic to see about diabetes / anaemia / something else. At one stage, I saw two doctors together, who turned out to be
sigisgrim and
amalion.
How can someone get a 10-page Word document to take up 9MB? And how can they then have the gall to email it to people?? (I haven't opened it!)
A little game for you:

That's right, I think often a file gets that big because of things used within it - I get (got?) this all the time at work being a Project Manager. People try to embed PowerPoint slides and MS Project stuff within Word and Excel as a way of trying to get round not every organisation on our Project Board having access to more than the basic software. Alas it doesn't work.
Problems come in when you get either a terribly clever but completely IT illiterate civil servant wanting their documents to make tea and solve world poverty or something, and so being over ambitious with tables and whatnot; or when you have someone from a wealthy company putting together a whizzy presentation that won't work on the wonky IT equipment that is all that the one board member from a school has access to. This invariably means it's ME who has to spend all afternoon adapting documents or arranging someone remotely in London to get a board member a hard copy as they arrive for their meeting...
Very frustrating, but sometimes it can be got round by using zip files...or PDF, but not, I'm afraid if sending it to me, as MY computer refused to open PDF files...
Sorry, can't you just tell this was always a major issue for me too? ;)

I've decided that they are just too stupid, and deleted the document unread.
