Bleh

I have a sore throat and touch of fever. I came home from work early, and spent a couple of hours asleep. Then a light dinner and a lemsip, both made for me by my darling [livejournal.com profile] adaese. And now back to bed, I think.

Science fiction and fantasy fans were shocked by Terry Pratchett's announcement recently that he's suffering from a rare form of early onset Alzheimer's.

Many of us have been touched personally by this disease. As we age, more and more of us will have to face it ourselves, or watch as people we love become strangers.

Wonderfully, Pratchett announced recently that he is donating half a million pounds, or about a million dollars, to Alzheimer's research, and now we have a chance to help, too. Terry Pratchett's fans have launched a challenge to, "Match it for Pratchett," and word is sweeping the blogosphere.

Help spread the word! Link back here, create your own message, donate to the organization in your country.

Update

Still got a cold. About to go back to bed.

In my dream last night, I had gone to some sort of clinic to see about diabetes / anaemia / something else. At one stage, I saw two doctors together, who turned out to be [livejournal.com profile] sigisgrim and [livejournal.com profile] amalion.

How can someone get a 10-page Word document to take up 9MB? And how can they then have the gall to email it to people?? (I haven't opened it!)

A little game for you:

... I haven't avoided Creatrix's cold. Still, she wasn't in bed for too long, and so maybe I won't be either.

(What is it with this mood of determined optimism? It isn't like me at all! ;-) )

Eyes

Thanks for all your good wishes etc. My eyesight is still blurry, but it's getting better all the time. The actual op was over in a few minutes, and while awkward, it was pain-free; the worst bit of the day was sitting around for ages beforehand, with pupils growing steadily more dilated. Next time, I'm going to take some music!

To the hospital this afternoon, for more work on my eyes.

... I came home from a fortnight in hospital. That was a good day :-)

Well, I'm out. Not totally straightforward, but at least fairly short. I can now do everything except drive or drink alcohol.

A fuller update will follow, but for now, a big THANK YOU to everyone for the hugs, support and good wishes.

*hugs FList*

I think I probably know most of the cold remedies around, but what do you do for a cold?
wellinghall: (Cocker Spaniel)
... I have a cold, so I'm going back to bed.

Poorly

For the third day out of four, I have woken up feeling rough. I've done the sensible thing today: called work to let them know I won't be in, and am going back to bed with a warm drink.
wellinghall: (Default)
I'm a bit better than I was, although still feeling rather bleh - the cold is still with me, but is progressing into a cough. Creatrix has gone back to work today.

The game for the moot has arrived, so we need to find enough energy to cook it this weekend.
wellinghall: (Default)
... although actually feeling vaguely human just at the moment.

Creatrix has come down with it as well.

Time for a cup of tea, I reckon.

Cold

I'm joining what seems like the majority of my FList, and getting a cold. This afternoon, it has progressed from a slight snuffle to feeling like death warmed up.

I was meant to be going to London on Tuesday for a paper (and to receive my award, yay!), and again on Wednesday for a seminar; but even if I go to work, I won't be going any further.

Hugs, lemsip &c all welcome.
