A poll

[Poll #1344694]

ETA: Yes, I know there's a typo. But given [livejournal.com profile] girlyswot's great comment, how can I change it now? ;-)

Real Ife reminds me of Spare Oom. But I'm fairly sure we haven't met, in Narnia or elsewhere.

I like it :-)

Actually it is probably over 25 years since we first met. Also, I remember [livejournal.com profile] adaese from when she was a small child.

The first time I remember meeting you was at the Nottingham AGM in '93. It is possible, though, that we might have met at the Cambridge AGM or Cambridge seminar (sorry, workshop!); or even the Leicester AGM, back in '84.

I suspect it was in 1984, though I can't actually remember the detail of anything before about last week, deduction suggests that '84 is right.

I know I saw quite a few people then, tho' the only individuals I can remember are three of the then-committee, the organisers, and a certain Frenchman.

Of course, we may have been separated at birth, but the dates are against it.

[identity profile] wellinghall.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, someone must have recorded one of our dates of birth incorrectly.

Met you at Louisedennis' wedding, I do believe?

[identity profile] wellinghall.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
We actually met at a wedding before that :-)

[identity profile] ladyofastolat.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I first met you at [livejournal.com profile] skordh and [livejournal.com profile] jane_somebody's wedding, though I can't remember exactly when that was, so have guessed.

I'm intrigued to see that you've voted in your own poll, and have said that you first met yourself 20 years ago. Who were you before then, and how did you avoid meeting yourself?

[identity profile] wellinghall.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It probably was then - spring '96. I knew when we met at the Arthurian garden field party that we had met before, but I wasn't sure just when that might have been.

For the first 22 years of my life, I was a small Jacobean table in a house in Dorset. It was quite a surprise when I was suddenly incarnated as an actuarial student.

(More prosaically, you can only have 20 options in a numerical poll; and if you don't vote, you can't see the answers).

You can click on 'Submit Poll' without filling in any answers if you just want to see the results.

Ah, I didn't know that; thanks.

Fred spent many hours researching his book, "A day in the life of a coffee table".

I am just guessing about how long ago it was, but I suspect it was after my post-university resumption of TS activities in 1987, rather than during my early burst of enthusiasm (1980-82).

[identity profile] wellinghall.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't even join until '83, and went to practically nothing before '93.

Ah, that would make it more like 15 years then, rather than 20. Still, at my age I'm pleased if I can remember last week, let alone a couple of decades (except major disasters, of course - they do tend to stick in the mind).
