(1) When updating the AVG anti-virus software on my PC, I get the message, "A .bin file is missing." Any ideas what I should do about this?

(2) I seem to have got a pesky AIM toolbar on my laptop, in place of the normal quick search box for Google. How can I get rid of this?

Just seen the dates on that! - but have you tried the things they suggest on that post?

Googling on this suggests this problem happened in 2008 and in 2007 as well. (Perhaps they just do it to see if y'all are paying attention *G*.) There's nothing up on AVG's site about it atm, but on past form, I'd say it's their problem, not yours. Try the things they suggest in the thread, if those dont' work, hope that they sort it soon?
