It's funny, I always think of Ronnie James Dio as "the" lead singer of Rainbow, but, of course, they had several lead singers over time.

I think Dio was "the" lead singer and Bonnet was "a" lead singer after Dio left!

I remember idly leafing through a copy of "Rock Family Trees" (or whatever it was called), and being amazed at the work that had gone into depicting Deep Purple and its offspring.
