Um, I'm still dithering about a new phone ...

a) Blackberry-type-thing with keys, or something with just a touchscreen?

b) How easy are either of these to actually type with? (for the purposes of, say, sending a text or updating Facebook / LJ).

c) Pay as you go or contract?

d) How much data allowance should I get?

Please help!

Well, I have PAYG and use well under a tenner a month on average, and my phone is at least eight years old. But that might not suit you!

I find a Blackberry Curve pretty easy to type with - easier than an iPad, which has a bigger 'keyboard' but is touchscreen rather than real keys. I don't send many SMS messages, but I do use it for email a lot. However, while it can theoretically be used to update facebook and livejournal, in practice it's a pain because the screen is just too small and zooming in and out is very awkward (definitely compared to say an iPhone).

I know almost nothing about contracts, data allowance etc because mine is provided by JOLF together with as much data as I want.
