The Welsh Borders
We spent the weekend in the Welsh borders.
Clun had new leaves ...

... a packhorse bridge ...

... and a castle.

Stokesay also has a castle, with a bright and cheerful gatehouse.

Berrington Hall has a library ...

... a fine collection of waistcoats ...

... blues and purples in the garden ...

... and red in the car park.

Croft Castle has a church next door ...

... wyverns outside ...

... wyverns inside ...

... another library ...

... and a dragon.

Shobdon has a "Strawberry Hill Gothic" church ...

... at both ends.

And finally, Lydney Park has bluebells ...

... and other spring planting.

"Clunton and Clunbury, Clungunford and Clun
are the quietest places under the sun"
A. E. Housman.

I too enjoyed the Malcolm Saville books. But I thought it a bit cheeky of Clun, when we were there, to claim that Housman called it the quietest place.
