On Mull

Well, we're coming to the end of the first week of our holiday, and what a great week it's been! We've seen:
- castles
- otters
- eagles (golden and white-tailed - and, in an aviary, bald)
- buzzards
- lots of small birds, like wheatears, stonechats and whinchats
- seals
- porpoises
- lots and lots and LOTS of puffins
- basalt columns (in Fingal's cave)
- Tornadoes
- and an aircraft carrier!

The weather has varied from great to glorious - food pretty good - drink likewise. I had oysters and guinness for lunch yesterday - mmm!

After a week in Tobermory*, we're now about to leave Mull for three days on Iona, then head back to the mainland for three more days in Oban.

*Tobermory features multifarious Balamory souvenirs, and the odd Saki** book. However, there are no wombles at all. *sulks*

**He wrote a story called Tobermory, about a talking cat. It's good.

Which aircraft carrier?

If you happen to catch 8 or 10 eagles we have a society project for eagle-powered flight, now that modern materials are available for the harness.

Alas, it was too far away, and the light too dim, to spot the number. I'm pretty sure it was one of ours, but beyond that I can't tell you, I'm afraid.

They tend to get a bit stroppy if you try to take eagles off the island ...
