Update
Still got a cold. About to go back to bed.
In my dream last night, I had gone to some sort of clinic to see about diabetes / anaemia / something else. At one stage, I saw two doctors together, who turned out to be
sigisgrim and
amalion.
How can someone get a 10-page Word document to take up 9MB? And how can they then have the gall to email it to people?? (I haven't opened it!)
A little game for you:

I'm surprised their email server allowed them to even send it... I always have to put anything bigger than 2MB on the internet and email a url instead.
sigisgrim and amalion as doctors... you could do worse ;-)

*chortle*
well amalion might be OK, at least she's done a First Aid course in the past, but I know less than bugger all about medicine! I gave up biology at the first opportunity. I might be able to find a pulse, but only in the last couple of weeks have I found out that the liver isn't behind the belly-button, but is up in the rib-cage.

Inability to use a computer properly. I suspect that megamole's suggestion is most likely the right technical answer.

That's right, I think often a file gets that big because of things used within it - I get (got?) this all the time at work being a Project Manager. People try to embed PowerPoint slides and MS Project stuff within Word and Excel as a way of trying to get round not every organisation on our Project Board having access to more than the basic software. Alas it doesn't work.
Problems come in when you get either a terribly clever but completely IT illiterate civil servant wanting their documents to make tea and solve world poverty or something, and so being over ambitious with tables and whatnot; or when you have someone from a wealthy company putting together a whizzy presentation that won't work on the wonky IT equipment that is all that the one board member from a school has access to. This invariably means it's ME who has to spend all afternoon adapting documents or arranging someone remotely in London to get a board member a hard copy as they arrive for their meeting...
Very frustrating, but sometimes it can be got round by using zip files...or PDF, but not, I'm afraid if sending it to me, as MY computer refused to open PDF files...
Sorry, can't you just tell this was always a major issue for me too? ;)

I've decided that they are just too stupid, and deleted the document unread.

I think people who send powerpoints rather than pdfs should be shot. Let alone embedding powerpoint in word documents. They should be shot by very bad markesmen.
Have a cold, so am not being a nice person!

I don't think much of that dating quiz, I didn't get past the first question before giving up. The reason?
'How do you feel about children?'
I love kids. I have to stop and pet them in the street. I want to have 4 and stay home to take care of them. This "quality time" stuff is nonsense. A woman belongs with her children.
My career is important to me. I'll think about kids once I'm established professionally.
I want a big house in Newton with enough room for two full-time child care professionals. I'll spend my time at the Atrium Mall and the Armani boutique on Newbury Street while the nannies take care of our spoiled daughter.
Where's the 'No kids, ever' option? *grumbles*
