Hospital update

More starvation diet today - clear fluids until midday.

Got to the hospital, answered their questions, completed the forms, sat around for a while.

They did the scope with gas-and-air only! - no needles. It was darn uncomfortable, but I preferred it to an IV. They removed one polyp, which looked fairly normal.

More sitting around, cup of weak cool sweet tea, then released. Creatrix, the darling, had brought along some biscuits, and I got a Ribena and a Twix from the hospital shop; then home to real tea. Creatrix is now cooking our steaks, and our very own small crop of new potatoes.

I really didn't like the feeling of what they were doing - I can see why they prefer people to have IV sedation! But for me, with my fear of needles, it worked.

Glad to hear it went OK and you didn't have to have any needles- but I should mention that in my opinion gas and air beats ribena any day. Ooooh how I love that stuff.....

Yeah, it's not too shabby is it ...when I had Minidj2, I had to have it taken off me ;)

I don't think 'gas(-and-air)' (Entonox(TM)- what a great word) would be too refreshing when it is hot and one is thirsty, though? (Mind you, Ribena Toothkind, while virtuous, is IMO less pleasant, and the strawberry version even moreso).

Thanks. The gas and air didn't seem to do a great deal for me - I ahte to think how bad the pain would have been without it.

I'm fine now - tired, but that's probably the weather, and my complete and utter lack of exercise, as much as anything else. I haven't bled since then, which is good, but it's early days to say whether it has effected a cure.

Didn't look at lj yesterday so didn't know about the impending procedure. Glad it went well and that you're OK. Oddly enough, as I can't stand to have my nose covered, I would have hated the gsa-and-air and would have much preferred the needle...

I'm easy either way...I know what you mean about nose-covering I think (makes sense as a defence mechanism)...I had my entonox via a little mouthpiece thingy though, not a mask.

With me it's psychological. I was born with the membrane across my face and I believe that is the cause of my not liking having my nose covered. I once came out of an anaesthetic with my fingers trying to pull the mask off. yes it goes that deep.

Thanks. There was a gap, maybe of an hour all told, between the procedure finishing and having a drink - but they give you a cup of tea. The procedure was at the lower end, and the polyp they removed was quite far down, so I suppose there's no danger of the liquid getting onto the scar straight away.

Looks like I missed your original post. Anyway, glad it went well. My philosophy on the peutz jeghers and related procedures is that they beat the effects of the peutz jeghers if left untreated. I'm probably due some unpleasant thing sooner or later. I can't remember when the last one was.

Thank you. I'm fine now - still very tired, but then I was rather tired before I strated the prep. The ongoing heat and humidity, and consequent broken nights, clearly aren't helping.

However, I am now back on my full complement of supplements, and I do find that they help.

Excuse me, Wellinghall. I'm new to LJ and do not yet go there every day, so I've just now read about your procedure amongst these comments. This is called, I think, if it's the same thing, a colonoscopy. You mentioned "polyp" so I'm assuming it's that procedure. I've learned that medical practices are not the same on both sides of the Atlantic. Did you have to drink that goshawful go-litely stuff (a full gallon!) the day before? That's the worst part of a colonscopy.

Yes, it was a colonoscopy. I'm beginning to understand (from an online PJS support group) that medical procedures aren't always the same on both sides of the Atlantic, even when they're called the same thing!

My prep was Fleet phospho-soda - it was certainly pretty unpleasant!
