A good deal of Tony, actually. But mostly?

Does that mean that he'll turn into a werewolf?

I'm also terrified that it's going to turn out the same way. Although in the case of Blair 97, I was not one of the hopeful masses who thought it was going to be all fabulous from then on.

If you're asking about media reaction, then FDR.

If you're asking which previous president he most reminds me of at this stage, Woodrow Wilson.

Jimmy Carter is a possibility, too... But really, it's too soon to say.

Oddly, my choice seems to have mostly been based on the spouses....

Life of Brian...

Just thinking, whatever he does, however he tries to damp down expectation and hope, soooo many people are going to be disappointed.

I'm very much hoping that it won't be Tony Blair, 1997. (EDIT: Though that's what I picked, if it wasn't obvious.) But I can't get as emotionally worked up and excited about it as, oh, 98.7 percent of my friends-list seems to be.

Listening to the soundtrack of The American President seems to help a bit, though.

I like the fact that the USA can elect a black president, but I don't really have any opinion worth mentioning until I find out what he does.

I agree and would add also to elect his particular type of politician and intellectual. How he actually gets on is very important though! (If he makes a total hash of it, which I suspect he won't even if he can't do as much as he'd like and/or many others would like (but you never know), then that might actually set things back in some ways, for the future (ie. they might pick someone who puts Bush and his cronies in the shade)).

I take it we have no options other than "assassinated", "assassinated" and "sold out"?

Reminds me of The West Wing vibe of 'Now we can finally achieve good things! Or at least try to and get stymied...'

As for the actual outcome, goodness knows. But I think being black does make Obama different from, say Blair, in a significant sense, because even if he does turn out to be a slimy liar or a complete failure, there has always and forever now been a black president, and that will inspire a large number of disenfranchised people.
