When my office was relocated for 6 months to the building next door, I spent some rainy lunchtimes clocking up every single case in the NMH, including the invertebrates.

Random fact: due to the porosity* of the stone floor, only white wine is permitted at drinks receptions there, not red.

*Let's assume that's a word.

I think it's a word.

Thanks! :-)

We went to the main Easter service - combined with a christening - in St Magnus cathedral in Kirkwall this year. The congregation were invited to stay behind for drinks, and asked to stay on the mat at the east end so that nothing would be spilt on the stone.

The mat at the east end isn't very big. It is probably sufficient for the ?30 they might get at a normal service, but was wholly insufficient for the ?300 they had then.

Ah - I remember visiting it five or six years ago - it is a fascinating building.

It is indeed!

Your photography is getting really rather good, old chap :) . I mean, it was good before, but you've really improved recently. What is your secret?

Thank you! :-)

I will write a bit more about my "secret" later, when I have more time.

(And have I said, thank you?)

I happened across this site:

and have been thinking more about my photography as a result. In particular, I have been trying to follow the advice here:

and here:

You're welcome :-)

And now it's foliage which is unexpected. I like the... dryish exuberance? of this place. :) Oh, nineteenth-century biological sciences! Brilliant, brilliant era for them -- and for engineering, too.

"Dryish exuberance" sums it up very well :-)
