A drabble
A Scandal in Baker Street
He straightened up, stripping off his fouled gloves and apron as he did so, then putting them in his leather bag. He left the narrow alley, heading for the high road where he could find a hansom, or at least an omnibus.
Alighting at Regent's Park, he turned into his own street and headed home. Opening the door, he headed up the stairs, took off his hat and coat, and went into the sitting room.
A familiar voice spoke. "Whitechapel again, Doctor?"
"Yes, I'm afraid so. You have your cocaine, and I have ... this."

Splendid.

(There's something particularly chilling about the Doctor jolting home in an ordinary omnibus, alongside all the other unsuspecting passengers.)

There's famously no mention of cocaine in the later stories. Presumably they made an abstinence pact, explaining why the murders stopped even though the perpetrator was never caught?

And yes, you may have hit on something there.
