I'm afraid I couldn't get into 'the Hobbit'. I enjoyed the "Lord of the Rings" films, but I doubt I'd watch them again - they're so looooong!

The only Tolkien I will read for pleasure - and not so much nowadays - is LotR itself. I shall probably stop watching Dr Who now that Catherine Tate is back - last straw and all that - and I don't watch any of certain Doctors... both Bakers.

In other words, it has little to do with category, but much to do with quality. The only thing I don't watch is American comedy films and romcoms.

I don't watch the LotR films. I was brought up on the BBC radio version, which rather spoiled the films for me. Radio has better pictures, and all that.

Hm. On reflection I guess I don't re-read Tolkien very much any more, or re-watch the LotR films, because I'm busy reading other things. I do read a lot, but hardly any of it marketed within the "fantasy/SF" genre - mostly I read mainstream/contemporary novels.

I watched [the last series of] Dr Who because I think it's well-made and because I'm interested in lanciatore's reaction to it (he's a proper Fan). I don't watch films very often - I really don't like the violence (which now seems to be obligatory; science-fiction films can be really bad for this especially when they're aimed at male viewers). I'd rather go to the theatre.

I will happily watch the LotR rings now and then - some of them have Sean Bean in, and I'm not going to miss watching him in action :P Plus, Christopher Lee! Though I find them quite schmaltzy nowadays...

I have to add - I am horribly fussy about sci-fi and fantasy as I have very catholic tastes and don't stick to genres much.

We don't have Doctor Who here at the moment, so...
Still, very often is always a relative term...

There's a big difference to me between "will happilly do" and "do very often" Not having a telly, we don't watch Dr Who very often. But if I am round at friends houses I will quite enjoy watching Dr Who :-)

Why sci fi & fantasy are one genre, I can't figure. I go for sci fi, but fantasy, not so much. Tell you what, though: I don't especially like the sound of New Who (which is only available in the US via a cable channel I don't get); I currently watch the old ones on PBS and wonder whether I'll accept the new ones when I eventually see them.

Piffle, I got confused and ticked the wrong box.

I don't think I do any of them *very often*, as in weekly or monthly, other than watch Dr Who, because that's a current weekly series. But it's all stuff I have done and will do again, I'm just quibbling. Sometimes I won't read any Tolkien at all for a few years, then I will decide to have a Tolkien period and re-read most of my Tolkien library, for example. Same with most of my other favorite authors. I tend not to re-watch films so much, but I do sometimes.

Re the last option, just because someone doesn't do something/all of it, often, doesn't mean they don't like it - they might just have too much else to do. Or like variety.

Also I'd completely echo Bunn's posting, having read it now.

I don't do some things - ie watch LotR 'very often'. But all the things on your list are things I will happily do. I used to read and watch my favourite things many times, but I don't now; I prefer new things - like the new Who, which for me is perfectly compatible with the old ones.
