I've broken the shower, and it's gushing out water!
The friendly neighbourhood plumber has talked me through emergency disaster control, and it's stopped (for now, at least - but saying that is probably tempting fate!) He's coming round, but not until Saturday.
Oh well - tonight's sausages are cooking, and I've opened the madeira we bought in Portugal - and now Creatrix is home to help me drink it.

Date: 2006-05-04 01:15 pm (UTC)The last place we rented had no way of turning the water off inside the house at all. We used to dread that we'd get a leak of some sort over a time when we couldn't contact the Letting Agency to come and sort it out. Sure enough it happened eventually, but fortunately it was only a drip through the ceiling and it was ok till the next morning.

Date: 2006-05-10 06:07 pm (UTC)The plumber has been, investigated, found what needs replacing, and gone off to order a replacement. Inside the outer covering of the on-off knob is a bit that actually controls the flow of water, and this has a sealing ring connected to it. Or rather, had; the knob and the ring are now two separate pieces.
I MISS MY SHOWER!!!
