My new DVDs
Apr. 14th, 2006 05:25 pmThe Silverscreen chain of DVD shops has gone into administration, and are therefore having a closing-down sale. So I spent too much time and money in there yesterday evening, and bought:
Rope (Alfred Hitchcock) - see this at Uni; very well-produced, very stagey. (Actually, this one came from HMV!)
The Man Who Knew Too Much (Hitchcock again); the 1950s remake with Jimmy Stewart.
Flash - marvellous film, marvellous Queen score. I really don't know why it gets panned so much.
Night of the Living Dead - meant to be a classic of the genre.
2001: A Space Odyssey. Another classic of the genre, and who can forget the opening sequence?
Company of Wolves - great werewolf film; must try to get hold of the original Angela Carter short story.
Singin' in the Rain. Gene Kelly at his very best.
Some Like it Hot. This one is for Creatrix, although I never object to watching Marilyn Monroe :-)
The Eagle Has Landed. Great war film, based on a great book.
Now I need to go into Luton again tomorrow to get a portable DVD player; Dixons and Argos had both shut by the time I finished buying DVDs!
