This and that
Jun. 16th, 2008 04:21 pmCreatrix spent a lot of yesterday in the kitchen. She made vanilla ice cream; hazelnut meringue cake with a raspberry and whipped cream filling; apple cake; and roast chicken. Add in the pheasant soup that I made for lunch, and the dead pots of fat that I cleared out of the fridge, and there was a heck of a lot of washing up to do!
All the boxes of books are now unpacked, and the books themselves have been put on shelves. Not in any sort of order, mind you ... (Among other things, this means that I have found four out of five books in a series that I want to lend to someone. The fifth will doubtless turn up within 30 seconds of my putting the other four into the post).
I'm going into Luton tomorrow, for a meeting at work in the morning, followed by a medical appointment at lunchtime, followed by a conference call in the afternoon.
My PC is slightly poorly. It won't make a noise when I play (eg) the radio or a CD. There's a hum coming from the speakers when I switch them on, but nothing else. Any ideas? (It was fine on Sunday morning; then I tried it on Sunday afternoon, and it wasn't).
(There's also an error message that appears when I shut the PC down. I'll try to remember to write it down next time, so I can put it up here).
I also need to get the printer, scanner and HDD out of the cupboard, make space for them on the shelf, and plug them in.
I found today that our newsagent is shut on Monday afternoons. This seems odd.

Date: 2008-06-16 04:27 pm (UTC)Make sure that the lead is plugged in properly and that it is into the correct jack socket. Check that the speakers are working correctly. Try plugging another set of speakers in, or some headphones. Try plugging the speakers into something else.
If that doesn't give a solution try re-seating the sound card (if it is plug-in sound card). Check that Windows thinks that the drivers are OK, etc. Though it is most likely a hardware / mechanical problem.
The reason for the hum, by the way, is no earth.
