Last weekend, we went to my little cousin's wedding.

We travelled up to my parents' on the Friday evening, by train - no problems, save for a 10-minute delay on the last leg (Leicester to Melton). Beer, dinner, fussing and pampering by my mother. And so to bed.

Saturday, borrow tie from father, borrow cufflinks from father, borrow cufflinks from father for Creatrix, borrow razor from my father. (Memo to self: don't pack in such a hurry next time). Visit grandparents. Early lunch.

Wedding in small village church in small village where bride's parents live. Hot and sweltering. Greet cousins, partners, aunts and uncles, happy couple's small baby (we live in a modern world). Enter church (pleasant, light, but still too warm!) Speak to priest about just when I will be doing my reading (a semi-secular poem).

Bride the traditional ten minutes late; beautiful, in long flowing gown, and with her hair (for a change) curled off her face. Very enjoyable service; two well-known hymns, my reading seemed to go well, other reading from the Song of Songs which is Solomon's. One adult bridesmaid in pale blue; groom, best man and ushers in striped trousers, short dark jackets and waistcoats; they must have been ready to melt.

Come out to find that someone has replaced the sky with massive, dark, lowering storm clouds, rapidly getting closer, and swirling about in an ominous fashion. Photos conducted rapidly (but none the worse for that!) Cooler, too, thank goodness!

Off to town to reception; reasonable meal (ripe melon and strawberries, roast turkey, chocolate fudge cake or mandarin cheesecake). Brief, funny speeches. Seated at table with big cousin, and three of groom's family. Drink. Talk. And so to parents'.

Next day, visit from sister and brother-in-law (who were at the wedding) and two young nephews (who weren't). "Tag" more energetic game that I had remembered it! Sister and BIL brought tale of narrow trail of complete destruction through his parents' garden; suspect whirlwind.

Lunch, then back home; but trains on final leg from Bedford completely mixed-up, so taxi. Unpacking. Washing. Ironing. And so to bed.

Yesterday, invitation arrived to another little cousin's wedding!
