I don't feel capable of voting on which one was the best. The first series, though, was my favourite..

Season 3 for me - the actors! Though I dont think anything beats the final scene of the final episode in s4.

I'm not sure, really. I don't think they're all equally good, but that was closest to my opinion (or lack thereof). This is why all polls need a "no opinion" and/or "other" option :p

I think 3 is the best as a "series". Which doesn't necessarily mean it contains the best individual episodes.

Hmm. I may need the DVDs for Christmas.

The problem is that they're good in totally different ways. 1 was different, and innovative and fun (it's still marginally my favourite). 2 had the best characters (though marred for me by Tom Baker). 3 was the best social satire, but 4 is probably the most politically relevant.

Though actually, I think you need a '2-4 are equally good' option. I don't much like 1, but as to the rest, it depends on mood.

I've only really seen series one. It was just before I got rid of the TV. That is not intended to be a comment on the quality (or otherwise) of Blackadder. What I saw I enjoyed.

I liked series one greatly when it first went out, but I don't think it's aged that well. The second series I found a crushing disappointment, but the third reconciled me to Ben Elton's reinvention of the concept, and the fourth is much more delicately constructed than all the others, particularly the final episode.

I can't remember which I thought was best, I've enjoyed them all, some series or eps prob more than others.

What I *do* remember is being called Bob at work (since I had similar hairstyle/colour to the real Bob and was a similar height & build I suppose) when I was in one of my first jobs. (Something fun from otherwise not-very-happy times).

Was that poll reeeeaaaally by popular demand (I lots of people emailed you specifically to ask you to run a Blackadder poll) or were you, as I suspect, simply at a loose end? ;)

I completely agree on both counts.

I agree about series 1. I thought 2 was OK but it repeated some jokes ad nauseam (am I thinking of the right one?) and 4 was fantastic, but 3 was my favourite, possibly because I love the period and found the humour really clever.

Very, very funny historical comedy, starring Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson. Four series: the first set in the late middle ages; the second in Queen Elizabeth's time; the third in the Regency; the fourth in World War I. Blackadder descends the social scale as time goes on: in the first series, he is the King's younger son; in the second, a Lord; in the third, the Prince's butler; and in the fourth, a captain in the army.

There are four series?? Wow. I've seen the odd episode from the Elizabethian and the WWI ones, but that was a long time ago. I guess I hardly dare admit here that I didn't find them too funny at the time... :))) Though I should probably give the series a second chance; you're the (so far) last of a very, very long line of people I know who are mad about it. Possibly my problem is with Rowan Atkinson; I usually don't like the stuff he does.

It is, by some distance, the best thing Rowan Atkinson has ever done.
