A better day

My day off on Friday did me the world of good. On Saturday, I decided I was well enough to partake of the activities we had planned.
First, we went down to the Tower of London. Creatrix had arranged to meet her sister, their mother, and her three small nieces (4, 6 and 7) for ice-skating. We met successfully, had drinks, then they all went to don ice skates and wrist protectors while I stayed and read the paper. (I'm not daft; me + ice-skates = sore, wet bottom). The smallest niece quickly decided that she didn't like ice-skating, and came off feeling very unhappy; but a spotty dotty cookie (with lots of smarties on) soon cheered her up.
Then lunch by the river, then into the Tower. We gave it a pretty thorough visit; the little girls mostly enjoyed themselves, and the adults certainly did. Crown jewels check, ravens check, armouries check.
Two of the small girls had great fun climbing on their uncle; the third shunned me, but apparently she is the shy one of the three.
We then came back home, stopping off at Flaneurs (near Farringdon station) for chocolate tarts; the others were going to Tate Modern for the slides. And tea. And dinner.
Then it was off to the village hall for the pantomime. We've got a very active drama society in the village, and the panto uses everyone with any interest in it; there were about seventy people on stage, including lots of children from the youth groups. The plot was very convoluted, and chiefly designed to give everyone a chance to appear, with many jokes and much "business". Honours have to go to Alice, who gave a very mature performance; we were shocked to discover that she was only twelve. She was ably supported by another fine young actress in the part of Snow White (I told you it was complicated!), and by the White Rabbit.
I managed to win a raffle prize; I suspect the nieces will be getting an unscheduled Christmas present, as it consist of a boxed set of Disney "Alice in Wonderland" figures.
And so the day ended; I was tired, but not unduly so. Still, we managed to sleep late this morning, waking around 8.30. Today, we will be catching up with the chores, writing a couple of letters, going to church (Christingle service this afternoon), swimming, &c.
