I'm not sure about the details, but there have been reports (some substantiated, others less so) about the Co-ops treatment of their farmers and suppliers, and on ecological issues. They're certainly not perfect, but I think that on the whole they probably do a better job than the other supermarket giants like Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda etc, eg in paying an acceptable amount to the farmer for a pint of milk.
