The weekend
Jun. 25th, 2007 12:02 pmWe've had quite a busy weekend.
There was a good start to it - the actuarial exam results came out on Friday, and Revolutionary passed his exam. (The second set of results are out in a couple of weeks). In the evening, we watched "Shakespeare in Love" on DVD.
On Saturday morning, Creatrix had her hair cut, while I did some shopping in the village and then went into Flitwick to the dry cleaners, charity shop and bank. Then a few chores, and an early lunch, to leave the afternoon clear for -
The clay pigeon shooting. I had arranged a trip to the local school for us and my ex students. We shot about 50 / 60 clays each, and we all enjoyed it. My form was rather erratic - I could do with getting in some concentrated practice. Creatrix did better. Spy's wife had just come along to watch, but we persuaded her to have a few shots, and she did really well, hitting almost every time.
Unfortunately, I think I wasn't holding the gun quite correctly for the clay rabbits, and my shoulder is now very sore. On the other hand, my arms aren't as tired as they normally are after a shooting session.
The weather was fine while we were out - so fine that we both got sunburnt. It must have been the only three-hour sunny spell anywhere in the country at the weekend!
After that, we went for a drink at one of the pubs in the village, then back home for a cup of tea.
We went out to dinner in the evening, to give us a break after our colds (now definitely getting better, but not quite gone yet). Good food, slow service. The company was mixed - a large family party at the next table, celebrating the grandparents' anniversary, with two very well behaved little girls (five and six, maybe); but a loud, boorish and increasingly drunk party behind us. We did have a nice table by the window, from where we saw both a muntjac and a roe (which delighted the little girls).
Sunday was quieter. While Creatrix was at church in the morning, I read (my new Beowulf graphic novel), listened to CDs (Marillion - B'Sides Themselves, and Leaves Eyes - Vinland Saga) and watched TV (seabirds on Flamborough Head).
In the afternoon, we went for a bit of a walk, and picked some elderflowers to go with the gooseberries. Then to a garage sale, where I got a couple of Agatha Christies and some runner bean plants, and some raffle tickets (which won us a bottle of red). Then dinner - leg of lamb, followed by the aforesaid gooseberries made into a fool.
