Potatoes: ravaged by blight :-(

Lettuces: eaten by slugs :-(

Runner beans: eaten by slugs :-(

Blueberries: enough for muffins, even though this is their first year :-)

Moral of the story: we live in a berry-growing climate.

Yep.

My dad said that he has killed around 800 slugs in the last fortnight.

Encourage frogs and toads, they like slugs. A pond and a toad house might be a good idea.

Slugs have eaten all my strawberries :-( I am going to tranfer them to a tub and put a ring of copper tape around it to stop them getting them next year.

Strawberries? Huh! We've still got the pathetic little plants we put into pots about three years ago. The charitable would call their production this year "strawberries", but only if they had a magnifying glass.

Bum. Apart from the blue berries :)

Apparently Blueberries are one of the very few crops that we're in for bumper harvests of this year! So enjoy the muffins and be thankful you have something to eat ;)

I have snails EVERYWHERE...even the resident frogs, toads and thrushes and blackbirds can't cope with them. My petunias have been destroyed, even in the hanging baskets, and even the trough which has two rows of copper tape round it and a 'moat'...

I'm a disheartened gardener this year - the sweet peas I grew from a 50p pack of seeds are like the botanic wonders from Jack and the Beanstalk, except no sun has equalled few flowers. The tiger lillies had two flowers on them. The honeysuckle has flowered when it shouldn't do so until September. The lovely new Dianthus in the front border lost all their leaves due to pesky snails and rain. I haven't had my deckchair out since early June...

:(

I know people that would pay a fortune if you could get your slugs to take out runners. The streets of London are getting dangerous with all the surplus runners now that the sun is out.

One out of four is better than none, I guess, though that's pretty rough! But mmmmm, muffins. :)

What is the purpose of slugs? I get them crawling up the front of the house and front door. Yuk!

The only thing I can think of is food for blackbirds, thrushes, frogs and toads. Other than to annoy gardeners, of course... ;-)

Blackbird-food was about the only good thing I could come up with.
