... who somehow didn't really enjoy "Deathly Hallows"?

I suspect certain characters found it a bit of a bind too actually - said he trying to avoid spoilers for anyone who hasn't read it yet.

But I found it a good read actually and much better than some of her other doorstops.

There is a subdivision of hard core Potter fandom who hate Deathly Hallows with a passion. There is at least one book-burning video on YouTube.

I enjoyed it for the most part as I was reading it, but after I'd finished the book I think I came to the conclusion that what I was really enjoying was the fact that it was going to be finished at last.

(Then again, I didn't dislike it with the passion that I reserved for my hatred of OotP.)

Do you mean as in 'not my kind of book' or as in 'Rowling couldn't do this to XYZ!'? :)

I enjoy HP, but I am not part of the fandom, and I didn't have high expectations of this book, because I think JKR has bitten off more than she can chew: she is just not sophisticates enough as a writer to do justice to the problems she is trying to tackle.

I thought it was better than Phoenix or Half Blood Prince. Didn't realise it was so detested by some, I am off to YouTube to see the book burning video!

Well I enjoyed it. Basically, I reckon it does what it says on the tin. 'Hard core' fans not enjoying it? Probably because they see it as something completely different from what it is. But last time I looked,it's the author who calls the shots. Period.

Yes I agree with you. The house-midteen here (see what I did there?) gobbled it up and really liked it, and I think that is the litmus test, not what adult fandomers think (although obviously everyone is entirely entitled to have an opinion and express it if they want to).

IMO the real hardcore fans are the 8-14+ primary target audience who love the books & have an encyclopedic knowledge of the wizarding world, and who half-believe that it really exists around them (as some adult fans do too), and more importantly relate to the characters as child & teenage peers. JKR may not have the most stylish writing style ever, but as any teenager or parent of teens will realise, she's got the vocabulary, the behaviour & the trials and tribulations of the modern teenager to a T, albeit with some magic thrown in. The fact that many adults enjoy it as well just shows how good it is, as the same cannot be said for all children's books (although actually it can for a good few).

I didn't, but then I haven't read it (or any of them for that matter).

You may have gathered from my post on it that I wasn't terribly impressed. I'm not a huge fan overall, but have read them as a kind of guilty pleasure. I was disappointed with this one - a series of lost opportunities, I think.

I enjoyed it. I thought it was entertaining, easy to read and had good pace. But I wasn't expecting anything very much from it.

I suppose having not read any of the books has been a blessing of sorts.

1. I've enjoyed being surprised by the movies
2. I can enjoy the movies for the sake of enjoying the movies

So far, I've enjoyed the movies.

Hello - by the way, thanks for friending me. :) Just curious - where did you find me? (& how did you know I intend to renew my Tolkien Society membership as soon as I have enough funds? lol)

In response to your question above, on one level I enjoyed the book very much, and on another level, I sort of didn't. I felt a little stressed out even though (or because) I couldn't put it down. I liked the ending, though. I can see why a person wouldn't enjoy it, though it may not be for the same reasons I had trouble with it. Make any sense?
I enjoyed Book 6 much more the second time through... maybe the same will be true for 7.
