Three people have been hurt when their car collided with a water buffalo.

In Cumbria.

Police said the privately owned buffalo, known locally as William Shakespeare, died at the scene.

Is this as opposed to all those wild buffalo's you find in Cumbria?

Or a publically owned one?

Perhaps the Beatrix Potter Trust also keeps a small herd.

A dead buffalo, injured people and written-off cars. Amusing? (I see where you were coming from but...)

By the way, we have kangaroos near here complete with a triangular red and white roadsign with a kangaroo :D

I know it has been a long, wet summer but water buffalo in Cumbria is just a little much!

I, of course, live in a country where something like 1% of all traffic accidents involve a moose :)

But no water buffalos.

Apart from feeling very sorry for the poor buffalo.

What, are you still around? Shouldn't you be in labour by now? ;-)

Water buffalo farms not that unusual surely. Where do you think mozzarella comes from?

Unusual in Cumbria though (being a place more conducive to sheep farming for a start)? - most mozzarella made outside Italy is made from cows' milk, although that may be changing (I'm seeing more Buffalo Mozzarella in non-Italian packaging than before).

There's a buffalo farm near us. They sell their buffalo mozzarella at Tavistock Farmers' Market every so often.
