Codeine is good for sore throats, esp if you get it in soluble form (Codis 500) and gargle with it.

What are lily beetles?

They're bright red beetles that eat lilies! The only way I know of is to pick them off one by one and squash them, but they usually manage to evade my cunning fingers.

Oh, and thank you for the codeine advice - I've just taken a codeine phosphate tablet, and I shall go to Superdrug tomorrow on my way into work.

My best remedy for sore throats, especially if they are associated with mucus, is to gargle with hot salt water--as hot and as salty as you can stand. It has always helped in my experience.

You got there before me...I take it with a good dollop of honey in also...and hot water obviously. Much better for you than the drugs. Honest ;)
