Interestingly, Aldiss references exactly the point I whined to you about with his "back to drinking ale in the Shire" comment. I guess I really am taking an unusual view.

It's regrettable that Aldiss couldn't promote SF without a sly dig at fantasy. Besides, in what world is he living where adults liking Tolkien and Harry Potter is considered "respectable"?! Not the one inhabited by broadsheet journalists, for sure.
