Dec. 19th, 2007 09:31 amThe effortless meme (on my part, at least):
I know very little about some of the people on my friends list.
Some of you I know relatively well. Some I know very well; one or two of you I even know in RL.
Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you for your interest in my words.
But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself? It can be any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...they listen in rapture to the love-music of she-turnips." I might feel compelled to mock your musical taste, but I'll certainly remember you.
I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.

Date: 2007-12-19 11:15 am (UTC)Let's see... I love Scottish Country dancing and wrapping Christmas presents. I have 7 names, though in Norway I cut that down to 2. My country is warmer, but where I live is prettier.

Date: 2007-12-19 12:49 pm (UTC)I'm better at playing the tenor saxophone than the clarinet despite having actually had 7 years of lessons for the latter (reached the 'lofty' grade 5) and only 5 lessons for the former.

Date: 2007-12-19 02:03 pm (UTC)(OK, it's not a gem, as such. Nor is it knowledge. It's more of a fudgy nugget.)

Date: 2007-12-19 02:40 pm (UTC)Music: I am a pianist. Chosen field of creativity: Fabric art, mostly patchwork and quilts. That means I take perfectly good fabrics (even relatively expensive novelties), cut them into pieces, and sew them back together (not as they were before, of course), thereby losing many inches of seam allowances. Nationality: USA by birth, living in Germany by personal choice. Fortunately, I dearly love travelling, even packing!
So, as I posted this on my blog, I get an answer from you there, right?

Date: 2007-12-19 03:31 pm (UTC)Oh, help. I don't do reality, only deliberately over-dramatic flights of fancy. *struggles to think of anything*
Okay. When I was a little, I detested dolls so much that when I was given one, I shut it in a cupboard and cackled about the fact that it was crying now. However, I used to fall out of bed because I cherished my soft toys so much that I gave them all the best places in the bed. Somewhere between the two of these, I think I've grown up normal... Oh, never mind. ;-)

Date: 2007-12-19 08:13 pm (UTC)I am a descendant of a highly serendipitous meeting of Irish and German folk. The German part because my great-grandfather was emigrating from Stuttgart to America and got thrown off the boat at England due to having contracted dysentery and was therefore posing 'a health risk'. He bumped into my great-grandmother (presumably once he was healthy again) who was in service to an aristocratic Irish family (who just happened to be travelling in England at the time).
How they pulled that one off, I'll never know.

Date: 2007-12-19 09:44 pm (UTC)Physically, I'm short and fat, with great hair, good skin apalling shortsightedness and (I'm told) a friendly smile.
Professionally I'm a writer of fiction and poetry (i.e. I occasionally get paid for doing it) , and a teacher of Creative Writing, Communication and Drama related subjects at Massey University.
Socially, I'm a cooking, singing, reading, theatre-going, cinema-loving, multisport-supporting, travelling occasional director of amateur dramatics.
and famillially I've been a daughter for 43 years, a sister (however reluctantly) for 42, a wife for 21, a mother for 20 and a grandmother for 11 months.
And I don't update LJ as often as I should.
