The annual SocT banquet was held last night. Well, I say, "Last night," - it actually started at 2pm, giving more time for singing, dancing, duelling, chatting and mingling, as well as the all-important business of eating and drinking.

The banquet committee, led by the indefatigable [livejournal.com profile] shanith, performed miracles, even managing to outdo their previous high points. If I had to single out one dish for special praise, it would be the chocolate orange truffle cake. Or the sticky toffee pudding. No, I think the chocolate orange truffle cake had it. Or the ...

Thanks also go to [livejournal.com profile] parrot_knight, and to [livejournal.com profile] skordh, [livejournal.com profile] jane_somebody and [livejournal.com profile] prince_eldarion, for ferrying me around north Oxford after my new shoes gave me horrendous blisters.

I met some new people, including [livejournal.com profile] beam_engine and [livejournal.com profile] teh_elb, and many old friends - apart from those previously mentioned, I hadn't seen [livejournal.com profile] the_marquis and [livejournal.com profile] na_lon for far too long.

Creatrix turned up half-way through the evening, after going to see Sylvia at Covent Garden, and was pounced on for gossip and for tales of SocT and the TS in days of yore.

We woke far too early this morning, and have now finished breakfast, and are slowly completing the process of waking up. Then back home, complete the weekend's chores, and prepare for another week at the coalface.

Creatrix has reminded me about the costume competition, which in a moment of madness I volunteered to arrange. Thanks go to all the entries, and especially to [livejournal.com profile] pellegrina for helping me to count the votes. The winners were:
- [livejournal.com profile] exactlyhalf and [livejournal.com profile] footnotetoplato for the expandable horse
- [livejournal.com profile] arda_unmarred for Good and Evil
- [livejournal.com profile] prince_eldarion (aided and abetted by [livejournal.com profile] skordh and [livejournal.com profile] jane_somebody) as Merry on Stybba.

Sounds like everyone had a lovely time. I'll get to drop by another one someday, I'm sure of it. ^_^

(Meanwhile, I know I have an e-mail of yours to reply to -- I'll do so later on today or tomorrow when I can buy a new power cord for my poor old laptop.)

It was indeed a splendid party! I agree with you about the chocolate orange truffle cake :)

Ooh, I hope so!

We were stopping at the Linton Lodge hotel, very near St Andrews church - [livejournal.com profile] skordh and [livejournal.com profile] jane_somebody were recalling your wedding when they gave me a lift back.
