Rules: you comment and I provide you with a letter of the alphabet. You then list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. If you like you can explain why you love them, or provide pictures or whatever. See? Simple.

I was given the letter "P".

1. Pheasants. Marvellous to look at, even better to eat :-)

2. Papa Westray, one of the Orkney islands. It has the Knap of Howar, northern Europe's oldest surviving house.

3. The P-51 Mustang. (Is that cheating?)

4. A piece of chocolate orange truffle cake.

5. (Lord) Peter Wimsey, hero of a series of detective novels by Dorothy L Sayers.

6. The nine people on my FList whose names start with "p", whether I've known them for ten years, or never met them.

7. PG Wodehouse, master of comic writing.

8. Port wine.

9. Port, when one has had a tough sea voyage.

10. (The) Princess Ni, and other poems by Tolkien.

Let me know if you want a letter.

1) Holunder. German for elderflower and one of my favourite words.
2) Horses. Especially Arabians.
3) Heavens-above.com. For spotting interesting objects in the skies.
4) Hoopoes. I finally saw one in Turkey!
5) Head massages. Mmmmmmm.
6) Heat waves. Because it's so nice not to have to carry a cardigan wherever one goes.
7) Hugs. All round good thing.
8) Heyer, Georgette. Even if most of the heroes are obnoxious.
9) The Hound. My favourite GRRM character. Also, hounds generally.
10) Hats. Especially with tassles.

I consider 3) and 4) to be cheating...

Hmmm, that'll require thinking about.

I'm in no position to accuse you of cheating; I included two verbs in my list!

I'm curious by the Knap of Howar - how old is it, approximately?

I love Lord Peter! In fact, one of the reasons (there are three) why my youngest son is called Peter is in his honour. And I love Papa Westray too, I spent a wonderful day there. Now may I have a letter, please?

I married an Oxford historian named Peter. Not from Balliol, admittedly, though I did once go out with a Balliol man ;-)

Lit. Hum. Thus is the Classical architecture/drama thread in [livejournal.com profile] kargicq's post a while ago explained ;-)

Me too! When I went up in 1975 Balliol seemed to be full of hairy lefties. which disappointed me, as I was hoping to find myself a Lord Peter; I eventually found one at New College. But I married a Worcester man. Which college you? - me LMH.

St. Hilda's - so, another women-only (at the time) out-of-the-way one with slightly grim exterior but pretty setting inside ;-)

Oh go on then, give me a letter. But I don't guarantee to come up with 10 things.

1. the world. As God made it, not as we've done.
2. William's, apparently. I've dated three, married one.
3. wine
4. water
5. more wine
6. Wellinghall, of course
7. the word, "We," as in "We, the people..." or any context. There's something almost holy about 1st person plural
8. Writing
9. Wetness. In desserts--all foods, in climates. Wetness is nearly always some sort of grace. One doesn't think about it until one is afflicted with dry--desert (I have NO interest in going to Dubai or any place like that. I can stand the American Southwest for a few days max and then I must have Green.), dry skin. The only good dry thing I know is humor.
10. Work. All kinds. Like wetness, you know its blessing by its absence. Even the super-wealthy must work. And the disabled. Nothing so ennobles as work, but you don't know it until you see someone who does not. No matter what your situation, you can contribute. Otherwise, you are not part of We; you are parasitic.
