Some things that annoy me

The Pizza Hut "We do the pizza, you do the maths" adverts
TV schedulers who put the Muppets on to clash with Crufts
Jobsworths who won't let you into your office without a pass, even though they know you, "Because it's the rules"
Memes that give results you disagree with so much, you aren't prepared to put them up on your LJ
eBay sellers who don't leave feedback, and don't respond to your requests for it
eBay goods that don't arrive, and the seller abrogates all responsibility
Trans-Atlantic shipping charges
Living too far away from friends and family

Oh yeah I feel your pain. I much prefer the ones who'll at least offer to refund, even though they're losing out too. Blaming it on the post is rather lame too.

Date: 2006-03-13 03:00 pm (UTC)If you forgot your own pass, well that's your fault. If it doesn't work the way it should, then IT are to blame. If the general entrance policy is inconsistent, that's down to management. It's usually nothing to do with the guy on the gate who could lose his job if he doesn't do what he is told.
We do all sorts of pointless things every day, but it's part of our job description, so we've gotta do it. If the guard was unfriendly and hostile though, there's no need for that. That's just unprofessional.

Date: 2006-03-14 11:01 am (UTC)The guard was neither unfriendly nor hostile. I suppose the people who are really to blame are management. If you turn up without a pass in the week, you give your name, phone no etc to the receptionist, and she gives you a temporary pass. If she recognises you, it makes the process a bit simpler & quicker, but you still go through the same process; and you get a pass whether she knows you or not.
At the weekend, you must have your own pass; even if the guard recognises you, he isn't allowed to let you in without one, and the system isn't set up to give out temporary passes at the weekend.
I might ask why the system is set up the way it is.

Date: 2006-03-14 03:31 pm (UTC)We do however tell one little white lie to make things run more smoothly. If a temp pass isn't returned within 24 hours it gets cancelled. We tell everyone IT do that, but it's actually us who have complete control over the card system. It has prevented lots of people trying to make us compromise then get arsy when we don't.
