Aug. 3rd, 2006 06:09 pmI'm so excited - in just over four weeks, we'll be going to Orkney!
We're flying up to Aberdeen by Easyjet, then sailing to Kirkwall by Northlink Ferries. (Queestion: does anyone have any ideas what to do in Aberdeen for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon?) The ferry gets in at 11pm, and so we're spending the first night in Kirkwall, here.
The next day, we're flying up to North Ronaldsay, where we're stopping at the bird observatory for two nights, then going onto Papa Westray for one more night.
After that, it's back to Mainland (ie the main island), where we pick up our hire car. We're spending seven nights at Woodwick House, which is the nicest hotel we have ever been to, run by a large white cat.
While on Orkney, we're hoping see some birds, some prehistoric dwellings, a bottle or two of whisky, and if we're very, very lucky, maybe even one of these.
I can't wait!!!

Date: 2006-08-04 06:31 am (UTC)Strangely, I happen to have the Scotland Touring Guide by my computer... it looks like the Cathedral is closed on Saturdays, but the Gordon Highlanders museum (Viewfield Road), St Nicholas' Kirk (Union Street), the Maritime Museum (Shiprow), and the David Welch Winter Gardens (Polmuir Road) all sound interesting. I'm sure Google would oblige with more information on each.
