From kingpellinor and ladyofastloat, and before that evilmissbecky.

Instructions:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book on your desk! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

My answer:

There was something curiously menacing in the repetitive drumbeats that seemed to come from nowhere. Then Sharpe saw the far crops being trampled flat and he knew that each patch of collapsing rye betrayed the advance of a French column. He counted three formations directly to the front.

The book is "Sharpe's Waterloo", by Bernard Cornwell.

I'm not posting my results on my blog, for the very simple reason that they look like this:

Maria dunque rimase isolata, fuori dall'accampamento sette giorni; il popolo non riprese il cammino, finché Maria non fu riammessa nell'accampamento. Poi il popolo partì da Caserot e si accampò nel deserto di Paran.

Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Manda uomini a esplorare il paese di Canaan che sto per dare agli Israeliti."

Yes, I like to keep a Bible handy at all times, and this one just happens to be in Italian. :-)
