I was at Magdalen with Ben Goldacre (possibly the year below me, although I don't remember him). My impression of his Bad Science work is that the stuff he does on medicine issues is very good (particularly the anti-McKeith campaign). However he seems to pontificate on areas where I can't imagine he has any more knowledge than the next person, or at least the next educated person. I remember seeing something by him on his website a while ago on some piece of hi-fi equipment, and I asked myself "This guy's a junior doctor. How is he able to say that the electrical engineers and hi-fi experts who work for serious hi-fi magazines and manufacturers are wrong?"
So I remain sceptical about some of his scepticism...
