Some of us from work are going to be doing some voluntary work at a primary school, which includes planting shrubs in their garden. I understand there's heavy clay soil, and it's a partially shaded site. Non-toxic plants would be needed, and preferably something that can stand up to rough treatment.

So - what should we choose to plant?

Buddleias? The morello cherry we had in MK was wonderful. I suggest both for their wildlife-attracting properties. Also the cherries.

Also, I am besotted with cherries at the moment: our landlords in Liguria brought some round earlier in the week, and they were so entranced by my mother asking me as I was talking to them 'have you said thank you for the wonderful cherries?' and her enthuisiasm for them they brough more round last night, so we ate them after dinner, and for breakfast, and finally got through the last pound in departures at Nice, spitting pips into a plastic bag before security. Such hardship!

Thanks for that, [livejournal.com profile] muuranker.

I've read a book about the experiences of check-in staff. While passengers aren't permitted to carry illegal drugs on board, going on board while high / stoned etc is another matter ...
