Vapourer moth caterpillar

ETA: When I went to switch on the bedside light last night, I was startled to find a large grasshopper on it. Unfortunately, a few trial shots showed that photographic conditions were far from ideal, so I gave up the attempt and deposited it outside.

A male vapourer moth, going by the pictures, has been resting on my staircase's front door for the last three or four days.
