There's a teacher at my school with three given names (one of them distinctly odd) and a triple-barrelled surname (including a repetition). Luckily, he is known as "Ed" to his colleagues.

I have never been clear about the standards for English surname linking. But I've frequently had my curiousity aroused.

Anyone around here have an explanation?
