Charity choices
Dec. 9th, 2009 01:28 pmEach year, my employer picks a charity to support through fund-raising activities. For next year, it is asking staff to vote on which charity they would prefer. I have no idea which one to pick - and while I will think about it some more myself, I also wondered how my friends would vote.

Date: 2009-12-09 03:15 pm (UTC)I think that's the one I voted for from a vaguely similar choice of three.
As regards your choice, well they're all good causes deserving of people's dosh. I'd probably vote for HfH, but there wouldn't be much in it.

Date: 2009-12-09 08:19 pm (UTC)My reason is this - I don't like giving to charities which (even in part) do things which I, the tax payer, have already paid for (and if I haven't, put my taxes up, please).
So I'd have liked to see some political/campaigning charities (which AS is, in part who point this out), and some charities which do things outside of the 'really, any decent human being would be paying for this' - including, but not limited to, literacy for women in developing countries, drugs for people when NICE points out that they aren't cost-effective, and support for everything else which is good (from art to zoological breeding programmes) but which we-as-a-whole can't agree to fund to the level which we-as-a-sensitive-and-intelligent-decent-human-being would like.
