The UK Mac world is one man smaller today, with the death of Tony Tyler, a long-time contributor to both Macworld and Mac User magazines.

Tyler, full name James Edward Anthony Tyler, was born in Bristol in October 1943, was married twice, and died in Hastings, East Sussex on Saturday, 28 October 2006. He wrote The Tolkien Companion.

EDIT: The Tolkien Companion was the first book about Tolkien I came across, at age 11; before I had read anything but The Hobbit.

Oh no.

I have an early edition of that book, with some very interesting takes - for example, consistently spelling Melkor as "Melchar"...

I'd missed that.

I have the red dj'd 2nd ed of the companion after the Sil came out. Have you passed the news on to the butler?

Odd - the red dj'ed one I've seen was a 1st ed, and my 2nd ed is black dj'ed.
