"Shadow schools secretary Michael Gove says there is 'unanimous' support among Tory MPs and peers for offering the Lib Dems a referendum on electoral reform." Pull the other one, it's got bells on it.

As my cousin said, "And we have always been at war with Eastasia".

If Michael Gove said "Nice weather, isn't it?" I would open my umbrella.

It was only on Sunday that I said how reasonable he seemed on Andrew Marr. I will never again trust my own thoughts ...

See comments above. Alas, I am running out of even half-way sensible comments ...

Never underestimate the power of the prospect of 5 more years in opposition to motivate MPs to undergo Damascene conversions.

It's as if the Pharisees, the Saduccees and the whole bloody Roman empire had been on the road to Damascus.

I can't imagine more unlikely bed-fellows than the Tories and Lib Dems! Frankly, David Cameron would find more common ground with Labour!

On the plus side: he volunteers at his local museum.

It shouldn't be on the minus side, but I observe : he has a mouth designed for kissing babies.

I suspect that they are hoping that we, the general public, will not produce enough support to change the electoral system. They've offered a referendum and have said that any Conservative who wants to keep things as they are is welcome to campaign for a No vote. And if the referendum fails (which, actually, I doubt) they can say that it wasn't their fault, but it was the will of the people.

Ah, that'll be the new definition of the word "unanimous" made popular by the NFL Players' Association:
