[Poll #1589686]
ETA: I'll leave it to you to decide what "often" means.

ETA2: We (largely meaning adaese) buy food from:
- the local corner shop, which is a small Tesco (milk etc)
- the not quite so local supermarket, which is a Sainsbury's (when we need items that the local Tesco doesn't stock)
- get deliveries from Sainsbury's
- get weekly fruit and veg deliveries, and occasional meat deliveries, from Riverford
- go to the market in Bristol.

Where is Waitrose and "My local Wholefood workers co-operative"?

I forgot Waitrose! *facepalm*

I'll leave it to you to decide what category to put "My local Wholefood workers co-operative" under.

I decided it was a local shop. For local people.

... I'm lumping farmers markets under 'farm shop' by the way...

I read that as, "I'm humping farmers ... " ;-)

"Young Farmers Do It In Wellies!"?

+1 for Waitrose btw.

+1 on waitrose.

But more often Morrisons.

Also Budgdens (not very often, about as often as M&S - one is one side of the station, the other, the other).

What about mail order food? Fairly regularly Traidcraft, but occassionaly other specialist folks.

Seconded for both - I put the co-op under "independent".

Market stall for extra fruit and veg. most weekends.

(Twice [roughly] yearly trips to local wholefood co-operative plus a couple to Waitrose.)

I suppose I ought also to have ticked Fortnum's.

Mostly, though, it's the butcher, the greengrocer, the fishmonger, very infrequently a farm store (because that duplicates one's own production), and of course Abbey Stores and Harrison's and Bird & Carter when wanted.

I'd love to be able to tick "Farm Shop," since I do shop at the farmers' market whenever I can. However, since it's only open on Friday mornings, "whenever I can" equates to "once or twice a year, when I've taken Friday off because gaming is about to happen in my house." And even then, Prince Charles went and threw me out of it when I attempted my sole visit of last year.

This is the long explanation of someone who feels guilty about only ticking big national supermarkets, and wants to wave a tiny, hopeful little Local and Worthy Flag.

And markets, when I can.

You forgot 'local market', which is my major source of fish and often of veg.

I would shop at the Co-op if there was one handy.

When I lived in England I shopped at Tesco and the local village market days. Here in Germany I use Kaufland, almost like Tesco. Sometimes we go over the border to France to shop at Cora for really fresh fish and of course wine and cheeses and saucisse.

One more for the posh people's supermarket and unlike bunn, I ticked 'Somewhere else' for farmers' markets.

How about 'direct from the abattoir!' Last week, one of my customers, admittedly with perhaps a slight leaning towards hyperbole, described my beef as 'the best in the world'!

We get a big online shop from Sainsburies about fortnightly. We used to use Tescos online until they made a double charging error that left us 80 quid short for a week!

Top ups are from the excellent Bristol Sweet Mart, and smaller local shops. And sometimes The Evil Tescos.

I used to visit the farmers markets in St Nicholas, but it's a bit out of the way when I'm loaded with kids.

There's nothing directly on my way back from work, although I can make a detour via the small Tesco. There is a very small Smiths at work, which sells things like milk and biscuits.

The supermarket I use most often (near the station and with late hours) is currently a Waitrose, having previously been a Somerfield, before that Morrisons and when I moved to Croydon: Safeway. A lot of the staff and some of the products are still the same...

If I'm going to other shops (e.g. electrical or clothes) further into the town, I'll generally try a combination of Sainsbury's and M&S, just for a bit of variety, and I occasionally shop elsewhere (the Polish deli for doktorska sausage, Murray's Meat Market for feather steak etc.), but you did say often.

Answered the poll for when we lived in the UK, and the "other" was Morrisons, since it was practically next door.

Waitrose. We do our weekly shop at Waitrose and then I walk to Sainsbury's during the week for top-up items. It's very near the house and I don't usually buy more stuff than I can carry in the basket under the pram.
