Breakfast at Belvoir
Oct. 10th, 2010 12:25 pm"I can still smell the little paraffin lamps that flickered under the silver dishes of eggs, bacon, sausages, kidneys and kippers; beyond them on the sideboard stood huge chargers bearing hams, tongues, cold chicken and cold pheasant. On the table itself there were silver toast racks - constantly replenished - plates of hot scones, innumerable marmalades and jams (all home-made in the still-room) and glass bowls in which floated discs of dark yellow butter, each stamped with the Rutland crest, a peacock in its pride."
