[Teresa Wright's] contract was unique by Hollywood standards because it contained the following clause:
“The aforementioned Teresa Wright shall not be required to pose for photographs in a bathing suit unless she is in the water. Neither may she be photographed running on the beach with her hair flying in the wind. Nor may she pose in any of the following situations: In shorts, playing with a cocker spaniel; digging in a garden; whipping up a meal; attired in firecrackers and holding skyrockets for the Fourth of July; looking insinuatingly at a turkey for Thanksgiving; wearing a bunny cap with long ears for Easter; twinkling on prop snow in a skiing outfit while a fan blows her scarf; assuming an athletic stance while pretending to hit something with a bow and arrow."

That's hilarious, and there's got to be a story behind it, but even without the story I like her for it.

Indeed. (Although the story may well turn out to be much more sane and reasonable than expected, like the notorious "no brown M&Ms" clause....)

There's a persistent story that Van Halen had a clause in their standard stage contract saying that the dressing room must contain a bowl full of M&Ms, with the brown ones taken out, or the show would be cancelled. And that one time they did find some, they did huge amounts of damage.

This is very nearly true, in fact. But there are two clauses, not one, and it wasn't strictly the band that did the damage. (http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/vanhalen.asp)

I wonder if these were situations which other young actresses had found themselves in?

Why specifically a cocker spaniel, I wonder?

That's just what I thought.
