7. How many marriages took place in the UK in 2007?
274,000 marriages.

8. And how many divorces?
144,000 divorces.

9. How many legal migrants were there into the UK in 2008?
149,000. Of these, 11,600 came from the Americas.

10. Which was the only baby boy name to be in the top 10 in both 1934 and 2008?
James was no 9 in 2008, and no 6 in 1934. I had previously missed William, which was no 10 in 2008 and no 3 in 1934.
No girl's name was in the top ten in both years.

I think that's a cultural influence thing on certain parts of the population. At least based on what I see around here anyway.

I'm not sure what that comment means, as it's very carefully worded, but if you mean 'the foreign people are having lots of children' it's quite hard to tell from the official stats (which only say if the mother was born in the UK or not, so you can't pick out second generation immigrants) but it's definitely more complicated than that. When I last looked at this (2007ish) the birth rate had shot up for over 40 born-in-the-UK people as well as in other groups...

It was carefully worded as in my experience people can take exception to what they percieve as racism when all that is stated is an observable fact. There are a lot of families around here with more than 1, 2, or 3 children. And the observable mix of families with lots of kids means its not down to ethnicity but culture; where they come from I don't know nor do I care.
