It seems a peculiar collection - children's stories seem to be mixed up with several that definitely aren't - Kipling's The Wish House in particular I find not only unpleasantly creepy but also adult in theme and subject-matter.
Is it in the same series as the "Tales before Tolkien" that came out about 10 year's ago? That, too, was a peculiar mixture.
